"RWK is a latter day cowboy. He writes and sings about the modern day cowboy and about the exploits of his ancestors. Kimes has a unique talent that allows him to write songs in the traditional manner yet give them a performance that suits modern ears just fine. “The White Horse”, dedicated to Johnny Cash, and “Shooting Star” are classic gunfighter ballads but were only written recently. “Cowboys Only Cry In The Rain” beautifully portrays how tough macho men are tender at times and “Ponies”, one of two songs not written by RWK, is so beautiful it almost hurts. The finally track is a superb version of Bob Dylan’s “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door”, not exactly country but still my top favourite. As with Kimes’ “Dyin' Breed” (26 March) this is my Album of the Week. www.royalwadekimes.com" - Pete Smith’s Reviews “The Advertiser” ( UK )
Freedom Gun.
On April 15, 2005, the new commemorative rifle called the Freedom Gun will be unveiled at the NRA convention in Houston. The gun was named in honor of Royal Wade Kimes and his 2nd Amendment anthem, "In My Land." Kimes, an avid hunter and shooter, has long been a supporter of the right to carry and an NRA member. The rifle is a replica of the one used by Kirk Douglas in the classic western, "Lonely are the Brave." Check back with us soon for pictures of the Freedom Gun and details on how you could add one to your collection. The unveiling will take place at the Taylor's & Co. booth at the NRA Show in Houston.
